Find the Fun #12

Is your typical writing habitat supporting your practice, or do you dread even sitting down at that table, in that uncomfortable chair, in that crowded coffee shop, beside that window?

Experiment #12: Change your environment

Test out a local library, park bench, coworking space, community center, hiking trail, food court at the mall.

Walk around the block, bike to the park and back, browse an art gallery, tour a museum, read spines in a library, shop in a different grocery store, eat in a new restaurant, drive a different way home.

At home, change chairs, move furniture around, switch up the lighting, paint the walls, reorganize your books, print out inspirational quotes and stick them somewhere you’ll read them.

If you consistently write in the same place—the kitchen table, garage, your bed, the coffee shop down the street—try writing somewhere new, take a detour, or make the same place feel new.

Just don’t let redecorating or finding your perfect workspace forever keep you from writing.
