Find the Fun #14

Invariably, issues will arise: plot problems, stakes struggles, conflict concerns, dialogue deficiencies, character crises, pacing pitfalls, calendar contradictions, quest quandaries, structure snags, title troubles, beginning blunders, middle mishaps, ending errors.

Experiment #14: Talk it out

Find a fellow writer or trusted friend willing to be a sounding board. Go in with zero expectations and consider having a conversation more important than solving the story issue.

Make audio recordings of yourself talking through the dilemma. Talk to a bookshelf, cup of caffeine, stuffed animal, your reflection. Go on a walk and create a voice memo on your phone. Use dictation or transcription tools.

Remember to play with the problem. Maybe the problem isn’t the problem, it’s the way you have stated it, approached it, fixated on it.

Just don’t let one problem keep you from writing.
