There are days I can’t write a single sentence I’m proud of, happy with, content to leave alone. I drive myself crazy trying to write well until I stop writing altogether. If the little critic in my brain wasn’t already loud and judgmental enough, now my writing software is telling me my writing isn’t good enough.
Experiment #27: Turn off spellcheck
While you’re at it, turn off grammar check too. Turn off all editing tools. All those colorful lines suggesting refinements, substitutions, corrections—they can become distracting.
You can always turn the editing tools back on later. Finish the draft first. Keep writing.
