Maybe I have plenty of time to write, but I don’t feel like it. Even chores sound more fun than writing.
Maybe I have some time to write, but there’s something else I’d rather do.
Maybe I only have a little time to write today, but it’ll take too long to get started, so I probably won’t get anything done.
Experiment #25: Writing sprints
Set a timer. Promise yourself you’ll only write until the timer dings—and if you feel like quitting after that, then quit. More often than not, I’ve found my groove sometime before the timer dings. If I have the time, I ignore the timer, and I keep writing.
Make it a game. Keep track of the number of words you write. Calculate your words per minute. Reward yourself for your highest totals.
Set a timer. Promise yourself that with the little time you do have, you’ll write as many words as you can before the timer dings. Even if I only had 10 minutes to write, I have more sentences in my story now than I had 10 minutes ago.
No writing is wasted. Progress is progress. Keep writing in the time you have.
